Laterite

Laterite is a soil and rock type, rich in iron and aluminum, that forms in hot, wet tropical and subtropical regions through intense weathering of the parent rock. It is typically reddish-brown due to its high iron content and has been used for centuries as a building material because it can be cut into blocks when moist and hardens significantly upon drying.
